PARIJAT DESAI DANCE COMPANY IS SEEKING DANCERS
AUDITIONS BY APPOINTMENT DECEMBER 2009

PDDC is seeking dancers for rehearsals and performances from February-June 2010, and beyond. (Men, women, queer, trans welcome.)

Parijat Desai Dance Company performs an elegant and exciting hybrid of Indian classical, modern and postmodern dance, which the New York Times has called a “seamless blending of the new and old.” Choreographer Parijat Desai brings together the sculptural lines, intricate rhythms and theatricality of Indian classical dance with the dynamism and conceptual experimentation of modern/postmodern dance. She and the company create new vocabularies and explore themes that move across boundaries of tradition and culture. PDDC is currently in residence at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center.

Ideal candidates have:
--Strong ballet/modern/postmodern technique
--Experience in (or willingness to do) release-based movement and contact/partnering
--Ability to achieve line and shape, as well as to be fluid and release
--Articulate arms/hands
--Strong sense of rhythm; preferable but not required: experience with rhythmic footwork
--Compelling, authentic presence (You are able to perform/express, but also be yourself/be real.)

PDDC is developing new work, including a dance theater piece, as well as prepping existing work for performance. We are working toward the following:
--Work-in-progress showings in NYC (March 2010: Tribeca Performing Arts Center)
--Performances in the San Francisco Bay Area (May 2010: ODC Theater, Asian Art Museum, De Anza College)
--performances in NYC (June 2010: Tribeca Performing Arts Center)
[Performances paid; rehearsal pay TBD]

Sun Dec 13    3pm - 6pm
Mon Dec 14   11am - 1pm
Sat  Dec 19   11am - 2pm
